Barrington Mobil station to pay $20,000 for gasoline leak

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced the penalty Monday as part of a settlement with defendant Shri Balaji Inc., an Illinois corporation that owned the Mobil station at 504 E. Main St. near Route 14.

"This order will protect the community by ensuring that the company will identify and remediate any remaining contamination," Madigan said in a statement.

Madigan sues Berwyn apartment building owner over lead paint

According to the suit, Patricia Groves, the owner and landlord of an apartment building at 1817 S. Grove Ave., failed to fix cracked and peeling paint in one of the apartments after a child under 6 years old living there tested for high levels of lead exposure, according to Madigan’s office and tests by the Cook County Department of Public Health confirmed the presence of lead paint in the apartment.

Illinois' share of multistate VW settlement nearly $29M

In addition, Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office announced Tuesday that a separate settlement of consumer lawsuits could steer at least $150 million toward tens of thousands of affected VW customers in Illinois. Illinois can also apply for $97 million from an environmental settlement reached by the U.S. Justice Department and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Madigan said today the scam involves trying to get business owners to download computer viruses or send money. Madigan says her office has received complaints. She says business owners are notified that complaints have been filed against their companies and are directed to a website or attachment for more information. The messages come via email or social media.
