Email Scammers Posing as Illinois Attorney General's Office

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is warning residents about an email scam that uses her office's name.

The emails appear to be sent by a representative of the Attorney General's office and include an attached "final warning" letter. The letter claims the recipient owes money on an outstanding loan and must pay the balance or be prosecuted.

"This email is an outright scam," Madigan said. "Do not respond to anyone claiming to represent my office with demands for money or threatening prosecution."

Madigan says anyone who receives the email should call the Consumer Fraud Bureau at (800) 243-0618.
