AG Madigan Testifies Before U.S. Senate Hearing on Eliminating Employment Discrimination Based Upon Sexual Orientation
Citing the success that the Illinois Human Rights Act has had since its implementation in 2006 in increasing tolerance for all people of the state, Lisa Madigan testified before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee today in support of legislation to include similar protections in federal employment law.
The Attorney General said, “…the existence of a statewide statute prohibiting discrimination based upon sexual orientation promotes tolerance, fundamental equality and common humanity of all individuals in our state. The benefits of such a message to the citizens of our state cannot be underestimated.”
