Law and Order: SVU

Click the link to check out a clip from NBC's Law and Order: SVU that focuses on the importance of rape kit laws. Lisa made Illinois the first state in the nation to require DNA testing of every rape kit.

One of Illinois Biggest Child Pornographers Arrested

Yesterday, Attorney General Lisa Madigan arrested a Lake County man for having more than 1,600 pornographic images and videos of children—one of the largest collections ever seen in Illinois.

Watch the video here:

This arrest is part of her continuing crack down on those who prey on children by illegally downloading and trading child pornography on the Internet. Lisa’s High Tech Crime Bureau is finding those who traffic child porn by tracking computer IP addresses to which the images are downloaded. Currently, more than 8,000 IP addresses are being tracked in Illinois.

Her initiative to crack down on these child pornographers sends a very clear message to these predators—she will find you, she will stop you and you will be arrested for your crimes.

Sincerely,

Watch Video: Milestone Reached

Yesterday, I announced that “Operation Guardian,” my initiative that makes unannounced compliance checks on nursing homes, reached a significant—yet troubling—turning point: we have found more than 100 wanted criminals living in nursing homes.

Watch an interview on this important milestone here.

My office has made surprise visits to 21 nursing homes over the past several months and identified 124 residents and staff wanted on outstanding arrest warrants. The goal of the program is to ensure proper safety and care of nursing home residents and ensure those with outstanding criminal warrants are not allowed to live near nor prey on vulnerable and elderly residents.

This achievement is significant, but our work is not yet done.

We will continue making unannounced Operation Guardian compliance checks and finding these wanted criminals so that our loved ones who need the care provided by nursing homes are protected and can live safely.

Sincerely,

Lisa Madigan

Cracking Down on Child Pornography

Yesterday, Attorney General Lisa Madigan arrested two men on child pornography charges—one each in Ogle and Randolph counties. This is part of her continuing crack down on those who illegally download and trade child pornography on the Internet.

Lisa’s highest priority is to protect all Illinois children, especially those who are victimized by these types of horrible crimes. Her initiative to crack down on these child pornographers should send a very clear message to these predators—she will find you, she will stop you and you will be arrested for your crimes.

You can read about these arrests here and here.

Dawn Clark Netsch on Jane Addams and Lisa Madigan

This week marks the150th birthday of Jane Addams, the beloved suffragist and champion of the poor.

One of the iconic figures in both Illinois and American history, Jane Addams helped found the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the American Civil Liberties Union, devised the first public kindergarten and the first public playground, and created the first homeless women’s shelter in Chicago.

But Jane Addams is probably best known for establishing Chicago’s Hull House where those most in need received help and support from her dedicated staff and volunteers; where tolerance, respect, civic responsibility and hope for every individual, family and community was paramount.

Probably no one can match this legacy of Jane Addams. But fortunately other women have taken up her life’s work and adapted it to meet today’s challenges. Lisa Madigan is one who has, and I admire and support her commitment.

Both Jane Addams and Lisa Madigan have shared a passion for protecting society’s most vulnerable—especially women and children—and have devoted their life’s work to keeping our families and communities safe and well.

Lisa works tirelessly to protect our children. She has launched programs to track down and arrest sexual predators and child pornographers who prey on kids on the internet. She has also working with our schools to identify and prevent cyber-bullying. She helps victims of domestic abuse find safe havens; her initiative, “Operation Serve to Protect” reduced the large number of unserved orders of protection by half.

And that is only a part of her record. She has met the challenge, and our challenge is to make sure that she can continue to support and protect our most vulnerable citizens.

I am a proud part of Women for Lisa that is mobilizing women voters across Illinois; and on this, the anniversary of one of Illinois’ most important trailblazers, I invite you to support another, Lisa Madigan.

Helping Secure New Jobs in Illinois

I am pleased to announce that Navistar International Corp.—one of the nation’s largest trucking manufacturers—is moving and expanding their world headquarters to Lisle, Illinois.

This summer, I helped negotiate with Navistar and nearby residents to ensure their move to Lisle, which will create and retain 3,000 jobs and 400 construction jobs for Illinois.

In this tough economy, we need to do everything we can to keep and attract companies and jobs. Navistar’s decision is a victory for the people of Illinois. The jobs and tax revenue generated from this project will be a boost to the Illinois economy.

I’m proud I was able to help.
